A security screener at Detroit Metropolitan Airport was arraigned Thursday on charges of lying to the government when he applied for the job.
Sadeq Naji Ahmed of Dearborn was charged in federal court in Detroit with making false statements when he told the Transportation Security Administration he never had a security clearance suspended, and never left a job under unfavorable conditions.
However, Ahmed, 25, had his security clearance suspended in 2001, when he was in the Air Force. He left the military because he allegedly made statements in support of Osama bin Laden, U.S. Attorney Jeffrey Collins said in a news release.
Ahmed was a screener at Metro Airport for about five months.
“This incident highlights the importance of the in-depth background checks performed by the agency on all its employees,” said TSA spokeswoman Amy von Walter. |
